NEWS DIRECTOR
North Texas Public Broadcasting, Inc. has an opening for a news director. This position oversees KERA’s news service, including local reports, commentaries and newscasts during Morning Edition and All Things Considered. The news director will also develop, launch and produce a new half-hour radio/online news program scheduled to air weekdays. This position develops, coordinates and oversees all multimedia news content consistent with KERA’s high journalistic standards and public service ethics. Our ideal candidate will have excellent news judgment and editing skills; experience in multimedia storytelling; excellent management and organizational skills; and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across departments and with external partners.
The news director manages the news personnel, including the senior managing editor, local Morning Edition host/senior editor, local All Things Considered host, reporters, Web news editor/producer and freelancers. This position runs editorial meetings; makes story assignments and approves scripts; produces reports, interviews and special projects; coordinates with KERA’s Art&Seek arts service, television production, kera.org and other divisions to develop multiplatform content; establishes and maintains partnerships to further KERA’s content goals; and ensures high journalistic standards of accuracy, thoroughness, fairness and balance are met. The news director also represents KERA at professional and community meetings, participates in on-air fundraising, and plans and administers the news budget.
The successful candidate will have a BA degree in journalism or related field or evidence of significant professional accomplishment in journalism. A minimum of 5 years experience in news management and excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. This position requires excellent script editing and story organization skills; knowledge of sound editing and digital radio production; and knowledge of online news platforms and production. Excellent team leadership skills and the ability to motivate others are also required, as well as a thorough knowledge of broadcast journalism standards, operations and ethics. Knowledge of the public broadcasting system and familiarity with NPR/PBS content preferred.

WEB NEWS EDITOR/PRODUCER
North Texas Public Broadcasting Inc has an opening for a Web News Editor/Producer. The Web News Editor/Producer is responsible for ensuring that news content, along with graphics, text and other multimedia are properly deployed on kera.org to achieve KERA’s overall strategies and goals. This position reports to the News Director, and works closely with the KERA news team, interactive team, other KERA staff, freelance reporters and producers, and external content partners. The Web News Editor/Producer ensures KERA’s online news content is consistent with high journalistic standards and public service ethics.
Scope:
The Web News Editor/Producer is the day-to-day editor of KERA’s online news content. This position creates, writes and edits original Web news content; provides added value to reports initially developed by broadcast reporters; creates and integrates multimedia and interactive elements, including audio, video, graphics, photo galleries and social media tools on kera.org; works with KERA’s Interactive team and others to identify online opportunities to promote engagement and interactivity with the public; stays current with emerging trends in multimedia; and meets high standards of accuracy, production quality and timeliness.

PROMOTIONAL WRITER/PRODUCER - ECONOMY PROJECT (Contract Position)
North Texas Public Broadcasting, Inc. has an opening for a contract Promotional Writer/Producer. This position will conceptualize, write and edit on-air promotional materials for KERA’s economy project to be featured on kera.org. This position will work closely with the multimedia project team to produce various television and radio spots with a special emphasis on connecting our audience to news content and resources for North Texans. Effective communication and writing skills, the ability to meet deadlines, and use sound judgment in task execution and follow up are essential. The Promotional Writer/Producer will also be able to work flexible hours during the week depending on project schedule and phase of work.
Scope: Temporary contractor for The Economy Project, a multimedia project, funded by CPB through Aug. 31, 2009.
Essential Job Functions:
• Work with the multimedia project team on a coordinated effort
• Write, produce and edit informational interstitials on local resources available in connection with KERA's Economy Project.
• Write, produce and edit promotional spots and liners for Special Radio and Television programs connected to KERA's Economy Project.
• Coordinate, produce and edit proof of performance spots on KERA's Economy Project
Minimum Requirements:
• The successful candidate must have a college degree in broadcasting, television, film or a related degree, as well as two to three years experience in broadcast promotion and/or marketing.
• Superior writing, verbal and interpersonal skills are definitely a must for the ideal candidate.
• Editing experience on the AVID DS and familiarity with the HD production and shooting a plus.
Computer Skills:
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Products required – Word, Excel, Powerpoint & Outlook as well as knowledge of e-lists.

AUDIENCE & MEMBER SERVICES SPECIALIST
North Texas Public Broadcasting, Inc. (KERA), the Dallas/Ft. Worth PBS and NPR affiliate, has an opening for an Audience & Member Services Specialist. This position will answer phones and provide thorough, thoughtful and enthusiastic responses to questions and concerns from members, viewers, and listeners about programming, membership, and KERA services along with projecting a professional company image through phone interaction.
This position will document all communication including, but not limited to, inbound/outbound telephone calls, e-mails and voice mails in Team Approach. Transcribe voice mail and comment lines, process local video sales and respond to emails about membership and programming. Coordinate and research television and radio program information through ProTrack, PBS Connect and internet search. Maintain binder on program descriptions, on-air offers, pledge/membership offers, station contacts and program underwriters. Assist with questions about premiums, Sustainer installments, change of address and duplicate mailings. Responsible for follow-up on credit card declines, account errors and Member Reward cards. Employee will participate in staff rotation as receptionist relief in the main lobby.
Minimum Requirements:
The successful candidate should have demonstrated exemplary customer service experience. Demonstrated standards for detail, accuracy and organization. Excellent written communication abilities and internet skills with an interest in researching information. Duties require professional verbal and written communication skills and the ability to type 30 wpm. This is normally acquired through one to three years of office experience. Computer literate with the ability to learn software applications.
Computer Skills:
Word processing, data entry, internet research and Outlook knowledge a must. Team Approach data base knowledge. (Desired)

ACCOUNT EXECUTIVE
Contract Position
North Texas Public Broadcasting, Inc. (KERA) has an opening for a contract Account Executive in their Corporate Development Department. This position will solicit and secure corporate underwriting sponsorship funding to help defer costs of local and regional productions, acquisitions and broadcast of programming and membership drives. Individual will act as a liaison between KERA and corporate supporters in servicing the accounts in a professional manner. This position is responsible for creating and presenting customized sales proposals to potential underwriters. Coordinates the sales process of underwriting including initiating contracts, credit clearances, production coordination, scheduling and billing.
The successful candidates must have sales and/or non-profit development experience, strong communication skills (written and verbal), be creative in the creation of proposals, as well as self sufficient with paperwork. This individual must also be proficient with computer software, have the ability to multitask, and be self-motivated and goal driven, with good organizational skills, and knowledge of public broadcasting. This position is commission based. College degree preferred.

ACCOUNTING SPECIALIST
This position is responsible for invoicing accounts receivable earned under the terms of the contracts between KERA and its underwriters and grantors. The Accounting Specialist will maintain customer accounts that accurately reflect the amounts billed and received over the life of the contracts. In addition, the Accounting Specialist will calculate commissions due to KERA Account Executives in accordance with the sales contracts generated. The Accounting Specialist works closely with the Underwriting and Grants Departments to maintain all contract files that relate to Accounts Receivable, assists with any account receivable research requests, and assists with collection efforts when so directed.
This position is also responsible for the accounting related to other asset accounts in general ledger including, but not limited to, prepaid expenses, inventory, and allowances for uncollectible accounts. In addition, the Accounting Specialist will be required from time to time to perform special projects and assist with the annual audit process, and other financial reporting requirements.
The successful candidate will have a minimum of 2 years accounting experience; an accounting degree is preferred or equivalent experience. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and Outlook is required. The individual must have strong organizational skills, be detail oriented, mange time efficiently, and have effective verbal and written communication skills.

CONTROLLER
The annual budget, monthly financial reporting (including financial statements and board reporting) and all other ad hoc financial reporting is the responsibility of the Controller. He/she will supervise a staff of 3 to 4, which support the management of the station donor database.
The Controller manages all aspects of the annual financial audit, prepares tax filings and workpapers, and is responsible for all station reporting to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. The Controller works with the Human Resources department with regard to monitoring payroll and the Retirement Savings Plans.
The successful candidate will have a BS/BA in Accounting or related business major, be a CPA, and have 5 to 7 years experience in an automated accounting environment, with at least 5 years experience in supervision of accounting personnel. Knowledge of investments, financial implications of employee benefit plans, and experience in not-for-profit accounting are suggested. Strong computer skills and extensive knowledge of spreadsheets is required. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills as well as analytical and organizational skills are also required.

Think/Anything You Ever Wanted to Know Intern
North Texas Public Broadcasting (KERA) is seeking a student intern to spend the spring 2009 semester assisting with the daily production of our radio/television programs, Think and Anything You Ever Wanted to Know. Think airs Monday - Thursday from noon to 2pm. Anything You Ever Wanted to Know airs Fridays from noon to 1pm. The Think television program typically tapes on Friday mornings.
The Think/Anything intern would work 10 to 15 hours a week to assist the production team with various tasks and duties related to production and will report directly to the senior producer. This internship opportunity with KERA is an unpaid opportunity and no compensation will be given. To qualify for an internship with KERA the individual must be currently enrolled full-time as an undergraduate; have completed his/her freshman year; be returning to college or currently be a full-time sophomore, junior or senior, and be carrying a minimum of 12 credits per semester. Newsroom Intern
North Texas Public Broadcasting (KERA) is seeking a student intern to spend the summer assisting the reporting staff as a newsroom intern. The newsroom intern will assist the reporting staff with research, tape gathering and editing, program updates for KERA's website, and other duties as assigned, such as attending press conferences and learning interviewing skills. KERA 90.1 is currently ranked 13th in this market, the 5th largest media market in the country. We reach over 300,000 listeners each week with the most thoughtful, engaging, unique and in-depth news and information programming available on the radio today.
The intern will report to the news director and will assist reporters and the assistant news director with research for stories or programs. The newsroom intern will also be asked to write news briefs and learn how to use radio equipment in order to assist reporters in the field or studio. The news director will assign the intern to cover press conferences or events. The intern will also assist the newsroom in posting stories on the web.
