EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT/CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER

North Texas Public Broadcasting, Inc. (NTPB), the Dallas/Fort Worth/Denton PBS and NPR affiliate, has an opening for a Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Touching the lives of approximately 2 million viewers, listeners, and users each week with its television (KERA 13), radio (KERA 90.1 FM and the newly acquired KKXT 91.7 FM), and websites (kera.org, artandseek.org, kxt.org), KERA is a media enterprise – an educational, cultural and civic institution whose mission is to use the power of television, radio and emerging technologies to enrich the lives of individuals and improve the communities we serve.
The EVP/CFO will report directly to the President/CEO and will be responsible for oversight of the finances of NTPB, the technology, engineering and distribution aspects of TV and FM, the human resources and facilities functions, as well as corporate business development (Underwriting). This position is the chief financial manager for the organization and is a member of the executive management team. This position will be the financial liaison to the President/CEO, Board of Directors and external auditors.

The EVP/CFO is responsible for preparing and presenting financial updates to senior managers and the Board of Directors. This position is responsible for tax compliance with regard to federal, state and local authorities and is responsible for leading the budgeting process. He or she oversees long term and short term investments, and is responsible for strategic planning with regard to fiscal operations, particularly for long range capital expenditures that will impact NTPB’s ongoing operations. The EVP/CFO oversees and assists with the software and databases that track and report on the Company’s financial position and membership data. The EVP/CFO ensures timely completion of processes to ensure reporting requirements are met. This position will meet with department heads to monitor budgets and stay informed of expected cash inflows and outflows. The CFO is responsible for GAAP financial reporting guidelines and must stay informed of the most up-to-date pronouncements that would impact the Company’s financial reporting. This position reviews and updates documentation and enforcement of internal control policies and procedures. The EVP/CFO is the primary liaison with outside counsel on legal matters and reviews contracts on behalf of the Company.

The successful candidate should be a CPA with at least 8 years experience as a CFO, Controller, or VP of Finance with a degree in finance, accounting or business administration. A CPA and MBA is a plus. The candidate must have outstanding communication skills and be able to write, speak and present in an extremely effective manner. The individual must have experience in strategic planning and execution as well as strong conceptual and analytical skills. The CFO must have demonstrated leadership skills and excellent organizational and planning skills that include being pro-active and visionary.
Prior experience in working with a board of directors and its related finance, audit and investment committees is required. The right candidate will have solid management experience and the ability to manage diverse teams with a can-do and teamwork-oriented approach.

WEB NEWS EDITOR/PRODUCER

North Texas Public Broadcasting Inc has an opening for a Web News Editor/Producer. The Web News Editor/Producer is responsible for ensuring that news content, along with graphics, text and other multimedia are properly deployed on kera.org to achieve KERA’s overall strategies and goals. This position reports to the News Director, and works closely with the KERA news team, interactive team, other KERA staff, freelance reporters and producers, and external content partners. The Web News Editor/Producer ensures KERA’s online news content is consistent with high journalistic standards and public service ethics.

Scope:
The Web News Editor/Producer is the day-to-day editor of KERA’s online news content. This position creates, writes and edits original Web news content; provides added value to reports initially developed by broadcast reporters; creates and integrates multimedia and interactive elements, including audio, video, graphics, photo galleries and social media tools on kera.org; works with KERA’s Interactive team and others to identify online opportunities to promote engagement and interactivity with the public; stays current with emerging trends in multimedia; and meets high standards of accuracy, production quality and timeliness.

Minimum Requirements:

    DIRECTOR OF LEADERSHIP GIVING

    North Texas Public Broadcasting Inc. (KERA), the Dallas/Fort Worth PBS and NPR affiliate, has an opening for a Director of Leadership Giving. The position reports to and works with the Senior Vice President of Leadership Giving and Special Projects.

    Responsibilities include identification, cultivation, retention and development of the Friends of KERA donor program ($1,500+) and achieving annual financial goals. The Director of Leadership Giving will help establish best practices for the successful planning and managing of the major and planned gifts programs for KERA, including communication development, event coordination and moves management strategies.

    In addition to the overall management of the program, the Director will be personally responsible for maintaining a portfolio of around 120+ prospects with a focus on giving levels of $5,000 or higher. This will include a robust and ambitious schedule of personal solicitations. Regular reports documenting interactions, scheduled visits and calls along with “moves” plans are expected of the individual in this position.

    The Director of Leadership Giving will supervise the Major Gifts Manager and be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day activities associated with the monthly renewal mail program. The position will also take a leadership role in coordinating Friends benefits, which include approximately six special events per year.

    The successful candidate must have an undergraduate degree and at least three years experience in fundraising management.  Prior management of an annual fund program is a plus. The candidate must also have a proven track record of success in major and planned giving and be able to identify, cultivate and solicit donors. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required as well as strong research capabilities. The successful candidate will possess excellent interpersonal skills, a positive attitude and a strong work ethic. The candidate must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, be organized, goal-oriented and a strategic thinker. Impeccable ethics, integrity and good judgment are a must. A working knowledge of fundraising data tools and an ability to use them effectively for tracking donor relations and building moves management plans is also necessary.

    PREMIUM COORDINATOR

    North Texas Public Broadcasting, Inc. (KERA), the Dallas/Ft. Worth PBS and NPR affiliate, has an opening for a Premium Coordinator.  This position will oversee the management of KERA’s in-house premium warehouse valued at $1 million, comprising more than 1,000 items, special offers and giveaways from TV pledge drives (65 days a year), Radio pledge drives (28 days per year), TV and Radio mail/e-mail campaigns, as well as internal station needs.  The overall goal is to sustain and broaden KERA’s member base by providing optimum customer service at the lowest possible cost.  Physically manages the premium warehouse and inventory; re-orders premiums using inventory database software, receives stock, and coordinates shipping.

    Essential Job Functions:

  • Assign appropriate premium codes, track and maintain accurate inventory count in Team Approach, KERA’s membership database system.
  • Work with Business Office on verifying shipments and updating items into PO system for payment.
  • Responsible for unpacking and shelving new inventory and conducting physical warehouse inventories for Business Office.
  • Oversee receiving, packaging, and shipping of all premiums in a timely manner to ensure high standards of customer service.
  • Supervise volunteers while they are in the warehouse packing premiums so correct items and appropriate thank you notes are mailed.
  • Research and order all premiums and packing supplies in a cost effective, timely manner to meet fulfillment deadlines; suggest new premium products and solicit special offers, tickets, and giveaways assuring the best possible trades, deals and prices for the organization.
  • Prepare, verify and distribute monthly premium reports; track and compare monthly premium budget costs to actual cost.
  • Maintain and track outstanding items, premium research files, purchase orders and order forms.
  • Create and present weekly status reports to Audience and Member Services Manager.


    Minimum Requirements:

    The successful candidate will have at least 2 years of retail and inventory experience, demonstrated exemplary customer service skills, keen eye for detail and accuracy, and excellent organizational skills. Math and record keeping aptitude, inventory management skills, research and strong communication skills required, in addition to the ability to work well under pressure and manage deadlines. Some evening and weekend work required in support of activities. Stock management, purchasing and shipping experience preferred.

    Computer Skills:
    Microsoft Office Software: Word & Excel and Team Approach software experience a plus!

    Education:
    College degree preferred or equivalent experience in the retail field.

    EDUCATION PROJECT ASSISTANT (Temporary)

    North Texas Public Broadcasting, Inc. (KERA) has an opening for an Education Project Assistant. This position will assist in the delivery of KERA’s educational services, including planning and support for Ready for Life, the Read with Me Early Literacy Project, Math Can Take You Places and others. The successful candidate will support implementation and administration of comprehensive training and outreach plans to serve community organizations, childcare centers, childcare providers, preschool teachers, parents and viewers.

    Scope:

    This is a grant-funded, part-time, temporary position through June 30, 2010.

    Job Functions:

  • Work with the Educational Resource Center team on a coordinated effort
  • Support KERA's Educational initiatives

    EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION CONSULTANT (Contract)

    North Texas Public Broadcasting, Inc. has an opening for a contract Early Childhood Education Consultant. This position will assist in the coordination and delivery of KERA’s educational services, including curriculum development, outreach, and training for Ready for Life and Read with Me Early Literacy Projects. The successful candidate will support the design and implementation of comprehensive training and outreach plans to serve community organizations, childcare centers, childcare providers, preschool teachers, parents and viewers.

    Scope:

    This is a part-time, six-month, grant-funded contract position

    Essential Job Functions:

  • Work with the Educational Resource Center team to coordinate outreach efforts with community partners
  • Coordinate KERA’s Read with Me Early Literacy Project, including partnership building and ongoing communication, grant reporting, instructional design, lesson development, training, and evaluation
  • Organize the Ready for Life project, including curriculum development, marketing, and positioning within the Public Broadcasting System
  • Assist the Educational Resource Center Director in long-range planning to secure additional funding to support KERA’s early childhood educational services
  • Exercise creativity within given parameters to meet required deadlines

    North Texas Public Broadcasting (KERA) is seeking a student intern to spend the fall 2009 and/or spring 2010 semester assisting with the daily production of our radio/television programs, Think and Anything You Ever Wanted to Know. Think airs Monday - Thursday from noon to 2pm. Anything You Ever Wanted to Know airs Fridays from noon to 1pm. The Think television program typically tapes on Friday mornings.

    The Think/Anything intern would work 10 to 15 hours a week to assist the production team with various tasks and duties related to production and will report directly to the senior producer.     Radio Internship Opportunity
    Newsroom Intern

    North Texas Public Broadcasting (KERA) is seeking a student intern to spend the summer assisting the reporting staff as a newsroom intern. The newsroom intern will assist the reporting staff with research, tape gathering and editing, program updates for KERA's website, and other duties as assigned, such as attending press conferences and learning interviewing skills. KERA 90.1 is currently ranked 13th in this market, the 5th largest media market in the country. We reach over 300,000 listeners each week with the most thoughtful, engaging, unique and in-depth news and information programming available on the radio today.

    The intern will report to the news director and will assist reporters and the assistant news director with research for stories or programs. The newsroom intern will also be asked to write news briefs and learn how to use radio equipment in order to assist reporters in the field or studio. The news director will assign the intern to cover press conferences or events. The intern will also assist the newsroom in posting stories on the web.

    Corporate Development Intern


    North Texas Public Broadcasting (KERA) is seeking a student intern to spend the fall 2009 and/or spring 2010 semester working directly with the Senior Account Executive to assist in streamlining the process of developing new underwriting for KERA 13, KERA 90.1FM and 91.7FM. This would be ideal for a student interested in the business side of broadcasting.

    The Corporate Development intern would work 6 to 18 hours a week to provide General Sales Support, assist in the development of sales presentations, proposals, marketing materials and research for Account Executive, aiding the Account Executive in seeking new customers through various prospecting methods including media monitoring (broadcast TV, print, radio, internet, etc.) as well as participate in sales meetings, conferences and trainings as directed
