DALLAS/FORT WORTH — KERA FM, the North Texas public radio station, is excited to announce updates to its weekend lineup of radio programs. Beginning Saturday, September 7 on KERA FM, “The Moth Radio Hour” – a weekly platform for storytellers to share funny, insightful and sometimes heartbreaking tales without scripts, notes or accompaniment – airs Saturdays at 10:00 p.m., and “Latino USA,” the English-language radio journal told from a Latino perspective, expands to hourlong episodes with a new broadcast time of Saturdays at 8:00 p.m.
NPR’s exciting quiz show “Ask Me Another” now airs Saturdays at 2:00 p.m. on KERA FM and “Travel with Rick Steves” rounds out the Sunday night schedule at 10:00 p.m. The BBC World Service newscast now airs every evening at 11:00 p.m. on KERA FM. The full KERA FM lineup can be viewed here.
And next month, KERA News will introduce the next stage of its local news expansion project. Starting Monday, October 7, on KERA FM, the News and Art&Seek teams will produce daily 9-minute local news shows every weekday during the flagship NPR newsmagazines “Morning Edition” and “All Things Considered.” These local news blocks – airing at 8:20 a.m. and 6:20 p.m. – are a significant step forward in giving North Texans best-in-class local, national and international news and information. Look for more details on this in the coming weeks.
The local news expansion also includes two recently launched initiatives:
- The Class of 17 blog and radio series is an in-depth education project by KERA News that’s following a diverse group of North Texas students on their very personal journeys from 8th grade all the way to high school graduation. KERA journalists also will post regular updates and features from the education world.
- KERA’s Breakthroughs project spotlights health, science and technology advances with roots in North Texas. Already, the radio and digital series has focused on breakthroughs born on the battlefield – from proton therapy being used to fight cancer to concussion research that’s helping protect high school football players – and a practical look ahead to the Affordable Care Act called Obamacare 101.
