What to watch this week, June 23-29
Television June 23, 2014 488In the summer of 1964, America’s eyes were fixated on Mississippi as the state grappled with white supremacy and the restriction of voting rights for African Americans. Activists, volunteers and political organizers risked their lives advocating for equal rights for 10 weeks in what was known as the Freedom Summer. A new documentary premieres Tuesday night at 8 chronicling that impactful movement and examing its enduring effect on the United States.
Tune in to KERA TV an hour before Freedom Summer begins Tuesday to see two special episodes of With Ossie and Ruby. Following the recent death of actress and civil rights activist Ruby Dee, we’re revisiting the show in which she starred with her husband Ossie Davis, which was produced by KERA in the early 1980s.
Coming Sunday is the much-anticipated return of Endeavour from Masterpiece Mystery! Shaun Evans (“The Take,” “The Virgin Queen”) returns as the young rookie DC Endeavour Morse for four new episodes beginning this Sunday at 8pm.
