Frequently Asked Questions
What is KERA’s mission?
The mission of KERA is to serve the citizens of North Texas by excelling in production, presentation and distribution of public media (radio, television and web/mobile media), and other activities that educate, inspire, inform and entertain.
Why does KERA need to raise money?
KERA is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit educational organization registered in the state of Texas. To support its mission and commitment to the people of North Texas, KERA must raise funds to pay for programs, broadcast equipment, staff and operating expenses. Over 60 percent of KERA’s annual financial support comes from the contributions of television viewers and radio listeners who understand that their contributions enable KERA to fulfill its mission.
How do I become a member or renew my membership?
To become a member online, go to the Donate to Radio or Donate to Television sections of the site. Or, call the Audience and Member Services staff during business hours at 214-740-9272 (or the metro number 817-963-3151 ext. 272). KERA’s basic membership starts at $35.00, but contributions of any amount are appreciated. Memberships are active for 12 months and you will be asked to renew your membership for an upcoming year. The Sustaining Membership program allows members to make convenient ongoing monthly contributions which automatically renew each year.
Is it safe to use my credit or debit card to make a contribution online?
KERA uses the best security and encryption technology available for your protection. The personal and financial information that your computer sends us, and that we send back to your computer, must be encrypted while in transit. Encrypted files are scrambled and can only be reassembled with the correct encryption key used by KERA. Your credit card is never stored unencrypted on our server, and it is only decrypted at the time of processing your information.

What is the Member Rewards Card?
Read more about this benefit at our Member Rewards page. Other Member benefits include KERA and KXT News (6 times a year) and the Discover KERA weekly e-newsletter.
I am a current member. If I renew before my anniversary date, will I lose the remaining months on my membership?
No. If you renew your membership before your anniversary month (to check that month, see the “Renew” month and year on your Member Rewards Card), your renewal will extend your membership an additional 12 months.
I am a current member. Why are you mailing me a renewal letter before my “Renew” month?
To assist you in budgeting for your gifts to KERA, we want to alert you in advance of your renewal date. Renewal requests are one way that we communicate to our members about the importance of member support.
I just renewed my membership. Why did I receive another renewal notice?
To save money on postage costs, we mail renewal notices in bulk through a mail house. This means that it takes several weeks for a renew request to be delivered to you. Your contribution and the next renewal mailing probably crossed in the mail.
Why does KERA have on-air television and radio membership drives?
KERA relies on the financial support of those who watch and listen to KERA. On-air membership drives are the most effective way for KERA to raise funds. Television drives are held in March, June, August and December. Radio drives are held in January, April and October.
My employer will match my contribution to charitable organizations like KERA. How do I make these arrangements?
KERA accepts the matching gift form that your company will provide you. The letter we send to you confirming the amount of your contribution may need to be shown to your employer. Please complete your employer’s matching gift form and mail it to:
