Doualy Xaykaothao Joins KERA News as Senior Reporter

Dallas/Fort Worth – KERA, the public broadcasting station of North Texas, is pleased to announce that Doualy Xaykaothao (pronounced “Dwah-hlee Sigh-kow-tao”) has joined the KERA News team as a full-time Senior Reporter.
Mary Anne Alhadeff, president and CEO of North Texas Public Broadcasting, the parent organization of KERA, said, “Doualy’s international news experience and her outstanding reputation as a journalist make her an excellent addition to the KERA News staff.”
Xaykaothao already is familiar to public radio audiences. She comes to KERA News from NPR, where she covered breaking news from Asia. In the last few weeks, she has been freelancing for KERA News.
“I am honored to join a growing news team that values original reporting, unique voices and fine storytelling,” she said.
Xaykaothao joined NPR in 1999 as a production assistant for Morning Edition and has since worked as an NPR producer, editor, director and reporter for NPR’s award-winning programs. As a producer for NPR’s Newscast Unit, she was a member of the team receiving the 2001 Peabody Award for its coverage of the aftermath of the September 11 terrorist attacks.
Xaykaothao is the latest addition to KERA’s expanding news department, which also includes former NPR staffers Rick Holter, KERA’s Vice President for News, and Lauren Silverman, KERA’s health and science reporter. Stella Chavez, education reporter, and Digital News Editor Eric Aasen also are recent hires.
