The lazy days of summer are officially here. Get out and make the most of the longer balmy days with one of these events the Art&Seek team has picked especially for you.

Wednesday Almost overkill

“Almost Overkill” is an exhibition at the Irving Arts Center featuring small gadgets created by artist Duoc Le. The work comments on humanity’s effects on the earth’s health.

Shakespeare Dallas presents the story of the disreputable Sir John Falstaff and his pursuit of two housewives. See “The Merry Wives of Windsor” in the beautiful outdoor setting of the Samuell-Grand Amphitheatre.

3The Texas Watercolor Society presents their 68th Annual National Exhibit at the Patterson-Appleton Arts Center in Denton. The goal of the TWS is to shine the spotlight on some of the of the best artists working in the unique medium of watercolor.

Also, this week’s your last chance to see Dallas Theater Center’s “Inherit the Wind” at the Kalita Humphreys Theater. The classic play explores evolution, creationism, and McCarthyism in this fictionalized account of  Scopes “Monkey” Trial of 1925.

Head to the Dallas Arts District this Friday for their Annual Summer Block Party. The Crow Collection of Asian Art, Dallas Museum of Art, Nasher Sculpture Center, and Klyde Warren Park are hosting this family-friendly gala that features live concerts, guided tours, local brews, movie screenings and much more.

Arlington is the new home of the internationally renowned Santa Fe International Folk Art Market. Check it out handcrafted clothing, jewelry and more at The Green at College Park, on the campus of The University of Texas at Arlington.

Saturday

5Kitchen Dog Theater hosts the New Works Festival at Trinity River Arts Center in Dallas. You only have the next three Saturdays to see new plays by up-and-coming writers.

Also on Saturday, mixed media artist, Jessie Budd explores identity in the digital age with a new exhibition at one of the final shows this year at CentralTrak. The show is a piece of a larger exhibition at the UT Dallas Artists Residency art space in Dallas.

reflexionHead to Levitt Pavilion for the Performing Arts in Arlington to hear Texas music legend Flaco Jimenez and Los TexManiacs’ Grammy-winning Tejano groove.

imPULSE dance project celebrates the closing of the modern dance company’s 5th season with performances on Saturday and Sunday at the Fort Worth Community Arts Center.

Monday

mondayThe Grammy Award-winning flamenco and salsa group, The Gipsy Kings are in town for a one-night performance. Head to the Bomb Factory in Dallas to see the celebrated group that has been on the forefront of international music for 25 years.

And in Fort Worth, celebrate Juneteenth by learning why and how African-American communities across the U.S. commemorate the end of slavery. This exhibition closes this week so hurry to catch it at the Ella Mae Shamblee Branch Library.

Tuesday

Tuesday“Something Rotten” is a comedy that takes place in the 16th century and explores the invention of what else – the musical. Catch the Broadway hit at the Winspear Opera House in the Dallas Arts District.

Author Chuck Klosterman heads to the Dallas Museum of Art to discuss his new book called “But What If We’re Wrong: Thinking About the Present As If It Were the Past.” The conversation is part of the DMA’s Arts & Letters Live series.
