Art&Seek Jr: Plan B For A Soggy Halloween

ArtandSeek.net 32

The one the day this week that’s a cold rainy washout and wouldn’t you know it, it happens on Halloween. Drat, that weatherman!

No doubt there are plenty of sad little witches and ghosts tonight but don’t worry, you don’t have miss out completely on spooky fun. Check out these events that don’t require Batman to wear rain boots or  Sleeping Beauty to carry an umbrella.

Dress your little cowpokes up and mosey down to Fort Worth’s Stockyards Station this evening for Treat Street.  There will be costume contests, pumpkin decorating, games, and trick or treating at the shops inside the Stockyards Station mall. Kids can also try out the Cowtown Cattlepen Maze and check out ‘Silver Bullet,’ a special Halloween show.

The Fort Worth Museum of Science and History is also offering inside Halloween fun tonight at their Ick or Treat event.  Little ghouls and goblins can prowl around the museum and try ooey-gooey, icky-sticky, creepy crawly activities throughout the museum. There will also be a spooky planetarium show, arts and crafts, and everyone is encouraged to wear their spooky (not scary) costumes.

Bring your little pumpkins to North East Mall in Hurst for indoor trick-or-treating. Participating stores will be giving out sweet treats and stickers at their Boo Bash. After the little monsters have their fill of treats they can also take a free ride on the Just Train Fun train.

If you’d rather stay home Tuesday night you can always give Halloween a rain check until this weekend. There’s still plenty of autumnal fun going on.

Halloween may be soggy, but the weather this weekend is going to be picture perfect–literally. Dress the kids up in their costumes and stop by the Dallas Arboretum for a romp through their fabulous Pumpkin Village. The crowds will be thinner so you can snap that perfect pumpkin patch photo of your kiddo. The theme this year at Autumn at the Arboretum is ‘The Wizard of Oz.’ You and your munchkins can enjoy the seasonal setting that includes haybales, colorful chrysanthemums, and more than 90,000 pumpkins.

Nothing says fall like a big orange moon. Come celebrate the big, full autumn moon at the Japanese-American Society’s Otsukimi, or moon viewing  Saturday evening. The event will be held at Klyde Warren Park which serves as the perfect backdrop for viewing the moon. Highlights of the event include music, Japanese folk tales, haiku, and art activities. The Texas Astronomical Society will be also on hand with all sorts of moon activities. And besides the ‘rabbit in the moon,’  Texas Rustlers Rescue will have real bunnies on site for you to meet and adopt as your very own.
