The Crow Collection of Asian Art will change its name to the Crow Museum of Art when its ongoing expansion is complete. Construction of a new gallery, relocation of the Lotus Shop, and an art studio visible from Flora Street in the Dallas Arts District should be finished in October, when the name change will take effect, according to a press release. The Crow Collection has declined to share the cost of the project.

The Crow Collection is also making long-term plans to replace funding from the Crow family with support from the community. The family opened the museum in 1998 to honor developer Trammell Crow and his wife, Margaret, and house their collection of Asian art. Since then, their son Trammell S. Crow, and other family members have supported the museum.

The funding change will allow Trammell S. Crow to focus on Earthx and other environmental causes, said Amy Lewis Hofland, executive director of the Crow Collection. “We’ve made a commitment that over the next 10 years, the museum will partner with the community and replace the Crow Family’s annual contribution,” Hofland said in the release.

“The plan is to complete the museum with spaces that fulfill the visionary spirit of co-founders Margaret and Trammell Crow and support our work to create the Crow Collection as Dallas’ Asian art museum – one that is accessible, relevant and for the community,” Hofland said.
