Wednesday

The Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum has a special opening tonight highlighting the fight for civil rights in the South. The show features photos from the exhibitions “Selma to Montgomery: A March for the Right to Vote“ and “Courage Under Fire: The 1961 Burning of the Freedom Riders Bus.”

Head to the Central Branch of the Dallas Public Library for Witchy Winter: A Celebration of Magic Through the Ages. The magical event focuses on the use of crystals and herbs and how they have been used in different religions and cultures throughout history and into the present day.

In Fort Worth, stop by the Kimbell Museum for a free guided tour. Learn about the museum’s collection with the help of a knowledgeable docent.

Thursday

The Pointer Sisters perform tonight at the Cowan Performing Arts Center at UT Tyler. The Grammy Award-winning sisters have had multiple hits, including the songs “Jump (For My Love),” and “I’m So Excited.”

In Fort Worth, Theatre Wesleyan presents “Second Samuel.” Set in the late 1940s, the play tells the story of a small town turned upside down by the hidden secrets that come to light after the death of a beloved piano teacher. It’s on stage through Saturday at Texas Wesleyan’s Smotherman Theatre.

And, the Theatre of North Texas in Southlake hosts Last Mic on the Left. The open mic event features local comedians sharing their talent in a relaxed lounge atmosphere.

Friday

Cellist and singer Shana Tucker performs tonight at Richardson’s Eisemann Center. Her unique style weaves together jazz, roots folk, acoustic pop, and a touch of R&B.

Nickelodeon’s “The SpongeBob Musical” has arrived in Fort Worth. SpongeBob and all of Bikini Bottom face catastrophe until an unexpected hero rises to take center stage. The nautical nonsense happens all weekend at Bass Performance Hall.

In Addison, Watertower Theatre performs the Pulitzer Prize-winning play “Harvey.” The play follows a polite man with a very strange best friend, a six-foot, three-and-a-half-inch invisible rabbit named Harvey.

Saturday/Sunday

The Vagina Monologues closes at Art Centre Theatre in Plano on Saturday. The play explores various topics including consensual and nonconsensual sexual experiences, body image, and more through the eyes of multiple diverse women.

Also on Saturday, head to the Kimbell Art Museum for the Kids Drop-In Studio. The free weekly program introduces children 12 and younger and their adult companions to fun and inspiring ways to enjoy art together.  This week’s theme is Portraits, Poems, and Puppets.

The Fort Worth Home & Garden Show kicks off its 40th year at Will Rogers Memorial Center this weekend. The event features multiple seminars and how-to workshops, including workshops hosted by the Tarrant County Master Gardeners where guests will create quick and easy home garden projects.

The Indigo Girls join the Dallas Symphony Orchestra this weekend at the Meyerson Symphony Center. The Grammy Award-winning group remains the only duo with top 40 songs on Billboard each decade since the 1980s.

Monday

The Dallas Institute of Humanities and Culture hosts Johns Hopkins Professor of Philosophy Christopher Lebron as he gives a lecture titled The History of Civil Rights in America: A 21st Century Perspective. Professor Lebron’s talk will be a deep dive into the rights activists featured in his book, “The Making of Black Lives Matter,” which connects the Black Lives Matter movement to the struggle for freedom and equal rights for African Americans.

In Fort Worth, there is an opening reception for the 2020 TCU Annual Juried Student Exhibition at the Moudy Gallery. The exhibition is open to all TCU students and features a wide range of works including painting, photography, video, drawing, sculpture, and more.

There’s still time to take advantage of Penguin Days at the Dallas Zoo. Admission to the Zoo is discounted through the end of February.

Tuesday

Get ready for a night of comedy, tutus, and man-sized toe shoes as the Irving Arts Center hosts Les Ballets de Trockadero de Monte Carlo. The all-male ballet company known as “The Trocks,” perform comedic twists on classics like “Swan Lake,” “Don Quixote,” and “Giselle” all while maintaining the perfect point in elaborate costumes and makeup.

The Tuesday Evenings at The Modern series continues in Fort Worth with artist Susan York. She will discuss her work which has evolved over multiple decades and includes immersive graphite rooms, massive floating columns, glass, lithography, and more.

And, Fashion Group International of Dallas holds its Rising Star Awards at the Statler Hotel. The celebration will honor the works of emerging talent within fashion and related industries.
