POSITION SUMMARY
Do you regularly refer friends with existential questions to This American Life episodes or begin conversations with “I heard this story on NPR…”? Are you the first to volunteer when something just needs to get done? Do you want an award-winning team to show you the ropes of radio and digital journalism?
If yes – and you’re a student with designs on a media career – you might just be the News Production Intern KERA is looking for.
Each semester KERA provides two news production interns with valuable experience. As an intern, you will be helping with the production of our talk show Think, where host Krys Boyd picks the brains of documentarians, authors, politicians and influencers. And you’ll be supporting KERA’s News team as local stories for Morning Edition and All Things Considered come together each day.
All applications must include a cover letter, resume, a pitch for Think and two pitches for news stories. Applications should also include samples of your work – including, but not limited to, written news stories, audio stories, photography or video work. If possible, please also include a link to an online portfolio. Applications that are incomplete will not be accepted.
Although this internship is unpaid, interns will receive academic credit for their work with KERA.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
Interns play a vital role in making the Think show happen every day and responsibilities may change on a weekly or daily basis, depending on the needs of the department.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Interns must be enrolled as a full-time graduate student or undergrad with freshman year completed. You should have knowledge of public radio and the Think show, strong writing and editing skills with a solid understanding of AP style. Audio editing experience, previous experience working for a daily new organization and knowledge of social media practices are not required, but are preferred.

For the fall internship, it will begin around August 17, 2020, and will continue through about December 14, 2020.
