Every day on Art&Seek, we’re talking to people who have tips on art in this time of social distancing. Share yours with us on Facebook, Instagram, or @artandseek on Twitter. Click above to hear John LaRue of Deep Ellum Art Company share his tip with KERA’s Nilufer Arsala.

Deep Ellum Art Company, also known as Art Co, planned to have summer art exhibitions at night in its 15,000 square foot patio space. But the company has shifted its entertainment online because of COVID-19 concerns.

Join Deep Ellum Art Company on Facebook at 9 p.m. for Children of Indigo’s live-stream.

John LaRue, the co-founder, said the Art Yard was to serve as a socially distanced entertainment space for the community. Now, all their entertainment events will be live-streamed from inside the Commerce Street location. All shows are streamed to Facebook.

“Just having something creative to do in the middle of your afternoon is nice, and you can always go back and watch it later on,” LaRue said. “You’re not obligated to watch it live.”

The art company has plenty to offer this summer. Just throughout the month of July, six bands live-streamed on their Facebook. Tonight at 9 p.m., Children of Indigo, a Dallas-based rock and hip-hop band will perform to Art Co’s online audience of about 16,661 people. Others that played earlier in the month were New Bohemians, The Effinays, Katsük, Mahagonie & 5th Sun and Smoking with Strangers.

From Monday to Saturday, art director Amber Crimmings holds an afternoon virtual series on Facebook called Art Co Afternoon Arts. Crimmings uses the opportunity to chat all things art, but also uses the structure of art journaling as a way to practice art therapy.

“We’re going to play with the idea of growth and the differences we can make,” said Crimmings in her July 14 Facebook Live. “I like to think about our differences in terms of plants and so we’re just going to play around with that idea with our drawings today.”

Amber Crimmings, the artistic director at Deep Ellum Art Company, hold art talks on Facebook Live from 3-4 p.m.

The art company also supports local artists through its virtual quarantine gallery called Solitary Creations. The collection, which began on Apr. 19, houses new works by Dallas-Fort Worth artists created amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The online gallery called Solidary Creations has over 45 pieces of artwork by local DFW artists.
