Egg Freezing: Empowerment Or Impediment

think.kera.org 17

The idea that a woman can freeze her eggs and thus delay motherhood until the time of her choosing seems simple enough, but that’s without factoring in the legal, political, and emotional costs. Lucy van de Wiel, research associate at the Reproductive Sociology Research Group, University of Cambridge, joins host Krys Boyd to discuss how this reproductive technology offers a chance at parenting but also can lead to a heartbreaking journey into a largely unregulated industry. Her book is “Freezing Fertility: Oocyte Cryopreservation and the Gender Politics of Aging.”
