Graduating Seniors in Texas Wesleyan’s Bachelor of Fine Arts program will have their day in the sun this weekend when Theatre Wesleyan presents Bibliophilia, or The Orature Festival

In this original, student-written musical, a book club comes together for their annual Orature Festival where they perform their own poetry, fantasy, or mythical stories for each other.

“The production features a cast of six vocalists who also serve as the orchestra and play their own instruments; they perform in social distanced booths similar to how we did in our show Vintage Hitchcock last semester,” said Jacob Sanchez, Theater Business Manager at Texas Wesleyan University. “There are also six additional performers who will be doing the movement and choreography of the show telling the stories,”

The show is a Senior project for three students in the school’s BFA program. Ryan Simón is the composter/lyricist/writer, Darin Martin directed the show and Lauren Garza is the stage manager.

Sanchez says all three graduating seniors have already started to do work in theater in the Dallas Fort Worth area. Whether interning, pursuing their actors equity membership or being involved in theaters like Circle Theater, Casa Mañana and other theaters in the area.

Upcoming shows at Theatre Wesleyan include a production of Uncle Vanya on March 26 and in April, Oh What A Night, an outdoor musical review featuring rock, pop and jukebox musicals.

Bibliophilia happens March 12-14 at Texas Wesleyan’s Thad Smotherman Theatre. Audience members who attend the show will be required to wear masks and adhere to social distancing guidelines. For those that prefer virtual viewing, there will also live stream option available.
