A Selena Tribute And Fiesta Kicks off Addison’s Monthly Outdoor Series
ArtandSeek.net April 16, 2021 18Addison After Dark , a monthly outdoor entertainment series, kicks off its season Saturday with a celebration of the Queen of Tejano.
This month’s theme is Fiesta Noche, and there will be a Selena look-alike contest at the party, with prizes for the winners and Selena tribute band Bidi Bidi Banda will perform the singer’s biggest hits. (Friday, April 16, would have been Selena Quintanilla-Pérez‘s 50th birthday.)
Lead singer Stephanie Bergara says she’s looking forward to performing No Me Queda Mas at the event. It’s her favorite Selena song.
“It reminds me of being a girl and dreaming of performing on the River Walk in San Antonio. It just resonates with me. When we perform it, it’s a very emotional experience and the audience is always really engaged. We’re happy we can honor Selena’s memory this way.”
Guests can also enjoy a night filled with street tacos, music from Mariachi de Oro, a mini Mercado and even a socially-distanced dance lesson from Anita N. Martinez Ballet Folklorico.
Visit Addison’s outdoor entertainment series happens at the 12-acre Addison Circle Park. Each month, the event focuses on a different theme, offering a variety of free activities, live music, food trucks, and unique experiences.
“We’ve spent the last year missing out on cultural celebrations, festivals and live entertainment,” says Jasmine Lee, Director of Special Events for Visit Addison. “April is Arts Month and getting out and celebrating the arts is really important, not just for us but for our Arts community as well.”
The event looks a little different than it normally would because of COVID. To help with social distancing, organizers will paint social circles on the grass in the park, so people can have distance seating areas. There will be hand sanitizer stations throughout the park, as well, as marked lines set up at the food trucks and in the Mercado booths to help keep people socially distanced.
Addison After Dark happens April through November on the third Saturday of the month.
Upcoming in May is Boots, Brew & BBQ, which will celebrate Texas with ’90s country hits by Straight Tequila Night, along with line dancing, lasso throwing, and some tasty BBQ.
And in June, revisit the ’70s with live music from Le Freak and Silent Rumor Band, dig out your best ’70s outfit for a costume contest, and take a disco dance lesson from Studio 22.
