DALLAS / FORT WORTH / DENTON – KXT 91.7 FM is excited to welcome Jessica Waffles — i.e. “Waffles” — as host of “The KXT Local Show.”

Launched in 2017, “The KXT Local Show” is a weekly program featuring a full hour of homegrown sounds from across North Texas and across genres, including hip hop, Latin, rock, blues, jazz, folk and R&B. As host, Waffles will help curate and produce this beloved local program, and connect and engage with both musicians and music lovers of North Texas.

“I feel so fortunate that KXT and North Texas are embracing me as a trusted champion of our local music scene,” says Waffles. “I’m a passionate supporter of North Texas musicians, and I can’t wait to get into the booth and continue that advocacy on air.”

Waffles has served as part-time photographer and contributor for KXT since 2021, capturing the unique spirit of the North Texas music scene through hundreds of stories and photos. Now, as host of “The KXT Local Show,” Waffles will be able to continue highlighting and championing local musicians on the airwaves, as well as online.

“We’re so excited for Waffles to take the mic,” says Benji McPhail, KXT Program Director. “Waffles has already been a standout voice on KXT’s digital platforms, and we know listeners are going to connect with her passion for homegrown sounds on-air as much as they have online.”

Waffles has spent nearly a decade in the North Texas music scene, after moving from California to Texas to explore touring event production. Her first taste of North Texas music was seeing Charley Crockett perform at Nate’s Seafood in Addison in 2015 — long before he was filling amphitheaters with his signature Texas sound.

Since that inspiring show, Waffles has felt a deep connection to North Texas music, and covered hundreds of shows for her project, Waffles Weekly, as well as for Fort Worth publication En La Calle On The Street, and occasionally the Dallas Observer. In 2024, Waffles was named Best Arts & Culture Journalist and Best Concert Photographer awards at the 2024 Dallas Entertainment Awards. Listeners can tune in to Waffles’ first show on Thursday, August 29. Music submissions for consideration on “The KXT Local Show” can be sent to kxt.org/submissions.
