Check out the Art&Seek calendar to find arts and cultural events going on across the North Texas area. Below is just a small sampling of events from the calendar we picked just for you.
Wednesday
Tonight, the Lone Star Film Society kicks off its 13th annual Lone Star Film Festival at AMC Palace Theatre and other venues in Sundance Square. The festival features a lineup of award-winning international and local films of all genres, film talks, and happy hours.
Head to Texas Women’s University in Denton for a poetry reading by the professor, writer, and poet Emmy Pérez. Pérez will serve as Texas Poet Laureate in 2020. Stick around after the screening for a q&a session and book signing.
And, KXT 91.7 presents Christone Kingfish Ingram at Gas Monkey Bar and Grill. NPR Music has called the 20-year-old “a rising blues prodigy.”
Thursday
The Ohio rock band Black Keys bring their Let’s Rock Tour to town. They’ll be raising the roof at Fort Worth’s newest venue, Dickie’s Arena. Shannon and the Clams and Modest Mouse also join the show.
Join the Movie Likers Guild for a Roast of the film “Mean Girls.” Participants can sign a burn book and take yearbook photos at the Texas Theatre screening in Dallas.
Head to Plano for their Downtown Art & Wine Walk. Sample select wines around the neighborhood while enjoying live music and local art. This month’s theme – Alma Mater.
Friday
Head to Frisco City Hall for “Feathers of Fire: A Persian Epic.” The shadow puppet screening is based on the 10th-century classic Persian epic, Shahnameh (The Book of Kings) and is suitable for all ages.
The immersive art exhibit Psychedelic Robot is back at The Crescent in Dallas. The interactive experience is 13,000 square feet of interactive, multimedia installations from local and internationally renowned artists.
Sure do hope you join us tonight at the Patterson-Appleton Arts Center in Denton for State of the Arts Denton. Art&Seek’s Jerome Weeks interviews artist and UNT professor Annette Lawrence. Lawrence will talk about her career and her exhibition, “More Time,” currently on view at the center. State of the Arts Denton is a partnership between Greater Denton Arts Council and KERA’s Art&Seek.
Saturday/Sunday
IMPRINT Theatreworks’ “Lizzie: The Lizzie Borden Rock Musical” wraps up this Saturday night at the Bath House Cultural Center in Dallas. The show reimagines the bloody legend with four women fronting a rock band and set to a blistering score with rage, sex, betrayal, and murder. This show is 18 and older only.
Go back to the future at The Fort Worth Museum of Science and History on Saturday. The museum hosts its annual Mad Scientist Ball complete with stand up comedy, magicians, and music!
The Fort Worth Opera presents the world premiere of, “Frida Kahlo and the Bravest Girl in the World.” The family-friendly tale teaches children about art, bravery, and the power of friendship. See it on Saturday at the Rose Marine Theater.
The Keller Art Walk is happening in Old Town Keller West this Saturday. Bring the family to take in the art and enjoy performances from the Southern Oak Band, the Texas Guitarville Music School of Keller, the Trinity Dance Company and more.
