Architects Selected For New Green Space At Fair Park
ArtandSeek.net December 18, 2020 16A California-based architecture firm’s been selected to design a massive green space at Fair Park.
Studio-MLA will oversee the transformation of Parking Lot 10 at Fair Park into an 11-acre community park.
It’s the first project to come out of the updated Fair Park Master Plan, approved in October.
Concept art of the new space features a large lawn, a play area for kids, a pavilion, and plenty of trees.
Fair Park First, the nonprofit in charge of renovating the complex, selected Studio MLA from a list of thirty firms.
“We’re excited about the award-winning team that will be leading the design of this transformational project for Fair Park,” said Fair Park First board president Darren L. James in a statement. “Millions of citizens and visitors will benefit every year from the investment we’re making to realize this extraordinary project. As an architect, I can’t wait to see this transformation.”
Studio-MLA recently oversaw the landscaping for a $5 billion dollar NFL entertainment district in Los Angeles and is leading the revitalization of the Los Angeles River.
“We feel honored to be selected for what will become a valuable new resource in Fair Park for the neighborhood and broader Dallas region,” says Mia Lehrer, FASLA, Studio-MLA. “Our highly collaborative, special design team strives to reflect the community’s needs and aspirations. The preceding efforts by so many have set the stage for this opportunity, and we are excited to continue the momentum and their inclusive approach to co-create a beloved new park that both honors the past and looks to the future.
Two local design teams, Studio Outside and BC Workshop, will work with the lead firm.
Fair Park First said the community park will also provide free programming for children, adults, and seniors.
