A Quick Look At Art&Seek’s Reporting

  • Growing up, Dallas artist Sherry Owens spent summers in Houston, surrounded by Crape Myrtle. She loved the shape and the flowers of Texas’ favorite shrub. Now, decades later, the branches are the building blocks for her sculptures. In this week’s Art&Seek Artist Spotlight, I learn that those branches have become an obsession.

  • “Things Missing/Missed” sounds like a typical offering from the Danielle Georgiou Dance Group. It takes place in an unusual space – the middle of the Dallas Public Library. And it’s surreal. Yet the performance marks a departure for the company. Art&Seek’s Anne Bothwell sat down with Danielle Georgiou for this week’s State of the Arts conversation and learned that the change was partially personal.

  • More than 120 theater artists packed a town hall meeting in Oak Cliff last Monday. They were there to hear about a new method Chicago theaters are using to address sexual harassment. The meeting came in the wake of the Dallas Theater Center firing an administrator over inappropriate behavior. Art&Seek’s Jerome Weeks says the takeaway was – that if a actor can memorize ‘Hamlet,’ he can remember where to keep his hands.
