A Quick Look At Art&Seek’s Reporting
- For the past few weeks, houses have been popping up all over Oak Cliff. These aren’t the luxury apartment complexes you might’ve seen in Bishop Arts though. In fact, you won’t even see construction crews working on these houses, because they pop up so fast. In this week’s Art&Seek Artist Spotlight, I meet up with artist Giovanni Valderas as he responds to Oak Cliff’s gentrification.
- The Kalita Humphreys theater is the only free-standing theater by renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright that was ever built. Nestled next to Turtle Creek in Dallas, it opened to national acclaim in 1959 and housed the Dallas Theater Center for 50 years. Now it’s fallen into neglect and disrepair. In ‘State of the Arts,’ Art&Seek’s Anne Bothwell sat down with Mark Lamster, architecture critic at “The Dallas Morning News” to learn about a plan to save the theater — and why that plan has stalled.
- In “The Post,” Tom Hanks plays legendary Washington Post editor Ben Bradlee. He’s desperately trying to convince the paper’s publisher – played by Meryl Streep – to print The Pentagon Papers, which detail how the government lied about the Vietnam War. ‘The Big Screen’team talks with the editor of The Dallas Morning News about the many journalistic questions explored in the film.
