After what seems like a very long winter spring is finally beginning to peek its head out and remind us how great it is to live in Texas during the month of March.

The best place to see spring in all its glory is the Dallas Arboretum’s annual spring  festival Dallas Blooms. Through April 11 you can experience brilliant color from 100 varieties of spring bulbs and more than 500,000 spring-blooming blossoms, thousands of azaleas and hundreds of Japanese cherry trees. The theme for the festival this year is “America the Beautiful.” Each week during the show’s run the garden focuses on one of the six regions in the United States with food, music, flowers and activities.

And speaking of activities, it just so happens the Dallas Arboretum’s nationally acclaimed Rory Meyers Children’s Adventure Garden will also be celebrating. The garden will be saluting the Midwest with loads of fun activities for the kids just in time for Spring Break.

Here are just a few of the many events you and the kiddos can catch this week:

• March 13-19: Marvelous Midwest Maize: Celebrate the rich history of corn and learn about what products it helps create in everyday life. Then, explore scientific properties of one of the most common maize products: corn syrup.
• March 13-19: Midwest: Traditional Butter Making, Milk That Cow!, Build a Better Skyscraper
• March 13-21, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.: I Spy Spring Break!
  Get out binoculars and magnifying glasses for an adventure in the garden. Solve clues and puzzles around the Children’s Adventure Garden for a chance to learn cool STEAM facts, find hidden gems and even win prizes.
• March 14: Pi Day – Learn all about 3.14 and the science of circles
• March 17: St. Patrick’s Day – See the importance of clover in beekeeping and look up close at real & “fool’s” gold.
• March 13 & 14, 20 & 21 at 1 p.m. & 3 p.m.: Live Science Show
  The Live Science Show will blow guests away—literally! Join RMCAG as presenters share exciting STEAM experiments and performances about everything science. Designed for children to adults, the entire family will enjoy this show-stopping adventure.

Also coming up this weekend in the Rory Meyer’s Children’s Adventure Garden, a special family fair celebrating Women in STEAM.

“In honor of Women’s History Month, we invite children and adults to learn all about what STEAM means as well as women from past to present who have made it happen,” said Jacie Hood, Public Programs Manager for the Rory Meyers Children’s Adventure Garden.

Kids can meet several female professionals in fields of science, technology, engineering, art and math, while taking part in special activities planned at the garden.

“We’ll have plenty of hands-on interactive activities to teach interdisciplinary STEAM concepts such as how flowers and math connect, the intersection of art and insects, as well as how the new Mars Rover helicopter is related to maple tree seeds,” said Hood.

You can catch Dallas Blooms daily through April 11. Timed tickets are required and can be purchased online at dallasarboretum.org or by calling 214-515-6615. No walk-ups are available for purchase. Masks are also required for the duration of the visit.
