DIFF: The Complete Lineup
ArtandSeek.net March 21, 2016 24The Dallas International Film Festival announced the complete lineup for its 10th year (April 14-24). Among the centerpiece screenings this year will be … a television show.
On April 16, the festival will screen the first episode of “Queen of the South,” a locally shot television drama that will air on the USA Network. It’s executive produced by Matthew Penn, who Chris Vognar and I will speak to for this week’s Big Screen movies segment (tune in to KERA at 8:20 a.m. this Thursday).
Other highlights announced on Monday include “Slash,” written and directed by Richardson native Clay Liford; “Complete Unknown” starring Michael Shannon and Rachel Weisz; and “Daylight’s End,” another Dallas-shot film. And Art&Seek readers might remember Jerome Week’s story from 2014 about SMU professor Willie Baronet’s project collecting homeless signs. It’s the subject of the documentary “Signs of Humanity,” co-directed by Baronet and Tim Chumley.
Ed Lachman receives this year’s Dallas Star award – he was nominated for his second Oscar this year for shooting “Carol” for Todd Haynes.
