Texas Ballet Theater Severs Ties With Noted Choreographer

The Texas Ballet Theater has broken ties with celebrated choreographer Liam Scarlett, after he was accused of misconduct at the Royal Ballet Company in London.

Scarlett, 33, was scheduled to choreograph the North Texas company’s performance of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” in Dallas and Fort Worth in May. Texas Ballet Theater will update ticket holders on program updates “as soon as information is available.”

“The Times of London” reported that Scarlett, 33, is accused of inappropriate behavior with male students at the Royal Ballet Company school, including encouraging them to send him nude photos. An investigation continues.

“The New York Times” once called Scarlett  “the choreographic wonder boy of British ballet.”

Other ballet companies, including San Francisco Ballet, are also changing their programs in response to the reports.

FORT WORTH, Texas (January 30, 2020) – Texas Ballet Theater (TBT) has suspended all engagements with choreographer Liam Scarlett amid allegations of misconduct at the Royal Ballet Company in London.

TBT has halted all future engagements with Scarlett pending the results of the investigation into these allegations. This includes the production of Scarlett’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, scheduled for May 2020 in both Dallas and Fort Worth, which would have been Scarlett’s first piece performed by TBT.

The company will inform the public and all ticket holders regarding programming updates as soon as information is available.

TBT is dedicated to creating a safe environment for its artists, students, staff and patrons. The company has a strict code of conduct and a zero-tolerance policy.

Due to the ongoing investigation and out of respect for those involved, TBT cannot provide any further comments.
