Three Local Jazz Ensembles To Play Free DJAM Concert Saturday

If you didn’t know already, April is Dallas Jazz Appreciation Month — DJAM for short— and the next four weeks are packed with events to celebrate the beloved art form.

Clear your Wednesday nights for UNT’s weekly lab band shows; attend the second annual Wylie JazzArts Fest on April 18, or configure your concert schedule by instrument —piano, guitar, saxophone or vocals—with the help of Art&Seek’s special DJAM calendar.

Start listening this weekend with an event at Dallas City Performance Hall on Saturday, April 11. Three professional ensembles will perform a free, live concert from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. with an intermission at 1:30 p.m. for an awards presentation.

Parking for the event is available in the lot at One Arts Plaza on at Flora and Routh Streets for $5, and there is also parking at the lot across the street behind the hall on Ross Avenue.

Sammons Jazz Ensemble led by James Gilyard

Bart Marantz’s Jazz Combo 1 from Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts 

South Dallas Cultural Center Ensemble

For DJAM 2014, the New York-based ensemble, AfroHorn performed at the South Dallas Cultural Center.
