Junior Players returns to live performance for the first time in more than a year, with its fashion runway show, Discover Runway Dreams

Ten of the “Discovery Runway Dreams” participants. Left-to-right: Zaynn Arora, Addison Tomlinson, Oliver Chen, Trenton Tomlinson, Auna Wiegand, Avianna Roberson, Lorena Silva, Christian Sandoval and Kelly Mendez.

The performance seeks to combat fast fashion by featuring eco-friendly and sustainable works. Junior Players held auditions to find 21 young models, ages 5 to 17, who will strut the runway in 27 pieces from designers Cat Dillon, Tiffany Walker and Erica Woodmore

The designers “are going to be using materials that they already own upcycling or recycling they’re also being very conscious of working with fabrics that are not using all kinds of chemicals for dye,” said Kristin Colaneri, the director of the show.

The group of young models received classes on runway technique and engaging in conversations on equity, inclusivity, confidence and how to make more sustainable eco-friendly choices in fashion and in lifestyle.

“I want people to feel safe, where we can be in a shared space, relax and have a good time,” Colaneri said.

Each fashion designer, new to creating children’s clothes, will showcase a 9-piece line. An hour before the show begins at On The Levee, there will be a 10-piece fashion-as-art exhibition featuring eco-friendly work.

There are three shows between April 7 and April 9.

To ensure public safety, Discover Runway Dreams will follow all CDC restrictions and guidelines, including social distancing audience members, requiring the use of a face mask at all times. Tickets here.
