We’re back for another spring break. Except for this time, it’s been a year since the coronavirus pandemic changed our lives. 

We now communicate and spend time with people differently. So, for this spring break, we bring you a few virtual and in-person events. You can find more events on our spring break highlight reel. We also encourage you to submit any arts-related fun to our calendar. Have a lovely spring break!

Spring Break At Texas Discovery Gardens

At Fair Park, the Texas Discovery Gardens are welcoming families to daily events like butterfly releases, storytimes and snake encounters. No registration is required. All events are free with the price of admission, which is $10 for adults and $5 for kids. Here’s what Texas Discovery Gardens has on the schedule for the rest of the week:

• Wednesday, March 17-
  Butterfly release- 12:00 p.m.
  Storytime on the lawn: 1:30 p.m.
• Thursday, March 18-
  Butterfly release- 12:00 p.m.
  Snake encounter- 1:30 p.m.
• Friday, March 19-

Celebrate Spring Break At The Dallas Arboretum

See spring in all its glory in the Dallas Arboretum. Through April 11 you can experience brilliant color from 100 varieties of spring bulbs and more than 500,000 spring-blooming blossoms. (More about their activities) Here’s their lineup for the rest of the week:

• Wednesday, March 17-
  St. Patrick’s Day Celebration – See the importance of clover in beekeeping and look up close at real & “fool’s” gold, fiddler music and Celtic Singing.
• Thursday, March 18-
  Daily Harvest – Watch the horticulture team harvest fresh and seasonal produce and a garden scavenger hunt for guests.
• Friday, March 19
  Catch the Window to the Wild Bird Show, enjoy a close encounter and Q&A with a few of their birds and trainers (Martin Rutchik Concert Stage & Lawn).

Spring Break Wonders At The Modern Art Museum Of Fort Worth

During March 15-21, kids can pick up a “Spring Break Wonders” sketchbook at the Modern’s front desk. The book focuses on 10 works in its permanent collection. Participants to make sketches from prompts while walking through the galleries. The museum opens at 10 a.m. Admission is always free for ages 17 years and younger; and $16 for ages 18 and older on Tuesdays-Thursdays. Admission is free on Fridays and half-price on Sundays.

Art And Rainbows At Nasher Sculpture Center

The Nasher Sculpture Center and Dallas Public Library bring you their latest virtual program Art with Freinds: Art and Rainbows. The center will show off its colorful collection. They also encourage participants to have a few sheets of paper and something to sketch with. The Nasher Sculpture Center will share this interactive workshop for school-age children on March 17 at 2 p.m. It’s free and registration is required.

Virtual St. Patrick’s Day Concert

From driving string melodies, masterful guitar licks and stirring Bodhrán beats, the Allen Public Library sponsors a free concert celebrating traditional Celtic music. The concert will feature guitarist Joseph Carmichael, singer/songwriter Ashley Davis, fiddle player David Mehalko and percussionist Cara Wildman. Join the live virtual concert at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 17 at allentx.swagit.com.

The ‘Science Of Guinness World Records’ Exhibition

The Perot Museum of Nature and Science takes visitors behind the scenes to show the marvels of Guinness World Records’ attempts and the science behind the achievements. You’ll see the largest Pac-Man game and longest mustache (measuring 14 feet), to the most consecutive pinky pull-ups (36) and most drumbeats in one minute (2,400 beats or 40 beats per second). The museum is also offering daily extended hours through Sunday, March 21, with reduced capacity and safety protocols in place.

Animal Topiaries In The Garden

Take your kids to see plant-shaped butterflies, elephants,  gorillas, a cardinal, gazelle, giraffe and peacock at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden. The exhibit is up through June 30th and included with the price of Garden admission. Members receive free entry.
